Lord have mercy!

We are the people,
The Christians,
For He is our God,
In Truth.

Come, you people of the Lord, the chosen by God from eternity, the Christians who walk in His Way and live in Him and through Him! Come, all of you who have lived today, come and worship our God, the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit, who by His good will has brought us to the end of this blessed day in peace.

In thanks let us worship God, who in truth exists and displayed His wisdom and glory in His creation, which we have seen and witnessed throughout this day. Let us give thanks to the beneficent and merciful God, who made us worthy to behold the setting of the sun. As the sun and the heavenly setting obey all Your commands, O Lord, may we as well be obedient in faith to Your commandments, which are a light to our feet, which are our meditation throughout the day.

We have hope,
In Saint Mary,
That God will have mercy on us,
Through her intercessions.

All the peace,
In the world,
Are through the prayers,
Of Saint Mary the Virgin.

Truly were you the perfect example of obedience, O Virgin and Saint Mary. In your obedience to the message of God sent by the Archangel Gabriel, we gained the hope of salvation. How much more, then, do we have hope in your daily intercessions for us before the Throne of Glory?

Just look at all the peace, safety, and health that we had throughout this blessed say. Is it not all through your prayers for us, O Virgin? Remember us, your children, always, O Mary; and may we learn from you, O our mother, hearing and obedience of the Word of God, so that our lives may continue in peace and safety at all times.

We worship the Father and the Son,
And the Holy Spirit,
The Holy Trinity,
The consubstantial.

Hail to the Church,
The house of the angels,
Hail to the Virgin,
Who gave birth to our Saviour.

Look at the heavens and in wonder behold the setting of the sun, the rising of the moon, the movement of the clouds, the quite breeze, the birds chirping and flying back to their nests to rest, the lights of stars beginning to display their power... This heavenly scene at the end of this blessed day and the beginning of the new day humbles us, O God, the consubstantial Trinity. "All this," exclaimed David the Prophet in his praise, "is the Lord's doing; it is marvelous in our eyes!" (Ps. 118:23). How true are your words, O David, you whose heart was closest to the Lord's, who saw His wisdom and glory in creation, and witnessed the obedience of the creation to His commandments! He set their laws, and they cannot be passed (Ps. 148:6).

How great is this obedience to Your Law, O God! For not only does nature abide by the Law you set, but your saints have showed us how even we, humans created with free will, can freely choose to be obedient to Your Law.

What greater example of obedience and purity is there, but your example, O Virgin Mary, who in all humility served God in the Temple, and in all simplicity served our Lord Jesus Christ throughout His life among us?

What about you, O my mother the Church, the bride of Christ? You are the house in whom all the holy stand in praise of God, for they are all obedient to the Law of God. You, the Church, are the house in which all men and women are invited to bless the Lord and welcome Him who comes to us from heaven - and He comes not alone, but with all the angels of heaven and the saints, who were obedient to the Law of God! You, the Church, are truly the house of God, in which the heavenly and the earthly meet, and for this reason we call you the house of the angels! You, the Church, are filled with the righteous saints and martyrs; we imitate their virtues and look at the end of their life here on earth, to learn from them, the Church Victorious, the true life of obedience and virtue.

Hail to you, O Church, supported by the seven pillars, for giving us salvation, a meeting place with God and all the heavenly, and for teaching us obedience. Hail to you, O Virgin, for your pure life of obedience to the Word of God.

We worship You in Truth, O God the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, who created everything and taught us obedience through them, and who established us in Yourself, and gave us the light.

Hail to you Mary,
The beautiful dove,
Who has born unto us,
God the Word.

Hail to you Mary,
With a holy hail,
Hail to you Mary,
The Mother of the Holy.

Just as the dove that Noah let out of the ark was obedient to God's will by carrying the branch of an olive tree back to Noah as a message of peace in the world after the flood; so are you, O Mary, a beautiful, pure dove, who carried the King of Peace in your womb, and gave birth to God the Word, your Creator. You are the mother of the Holy One in truth, for He, the true God, was incarnate and took flesh from You. Who else is worthy to carry the Holy One, but she who was obedient to His Holy Word? May we, too, be obedient in faith as you were, O Virgin, that we may be worthy of carrying the Word spiritually, and that Christ may be glorified at all times in our lives.

Hail to Michael,
The great archangel,
Hail to the highest General,
Of the heavenly hosts.

Michael, the prince of the all the heavenly angels! How great is your determination in obeying the will of God at all times! From the beginning of time, you fought against the selfish will of the devil, and you are determined to continue this battle against him, O you highest General, and you lead the battle against him (Rev. 12:7). What a strange thing it is to come across, when we see the highest General of the heavenly hosts freely obedient to God's Word, and freely choosing to fight against Satan and his army of fallen angels to the glory of God!

As you, Archangel Michael, see victory against the devil through the Lamb's blood (Rev. 12:11), may we too be obedient to God's Word as you are, and determined to commune of the Lamb's Body and Blood, which has been offered to us, to fight against all the powers of the enemy.

Hail to Gabriel,
The great Archangel,
Hail to him who preached,
To the Virgin Mary.

Gabriel, the Archangel, who is great and powerful in faith, whose name means the "Power of God"! You are the messenger of the Incarnation (Lk. 1:26-38) and the messenger of Consolation (cf. Dan. 8; Lk. 1:19), and both of these are wonders and mysteries of God that no mind could comprehend. Yet despite their mystery, you remained faithful and obedient to God's Will, and gave the messages and good news that you were sent to declare.

You, the Announcer, heard from God, obeyed, and gave the message, without thinking about the impossiblity of the content in your messages. May we learn from your obedience, O Archangel Gabriel, despite our lack of understanding and knowledge of what God has in plan for us.

Let us stand in humility before these two archangels to learn from them true obedience, and with one voice chant and say:

Hail to Michael,
The great archangel,
Hail to Gabriel,
The Announcer.

Hail to Raphael,
Who rejoices hearts,
Hail to Suriel,
The lightning.

We hail you, O Raphael the Archangel, who journeyed with Tobias and taught him obedience by showing him the mystery of curing a demon by the gall, heart, and liver of a fish! For with these organs of the fish, Tobias routed out the demon in Sarah, and was able to marry her and not die. You, O Raphael, not only taught Tobias obedience in his journey and wedding, but, as you yourself said, you have done all that you did in obedience to God's will: "As for me, when I was with you, I was not acting on my own will, but by the will of God. Bless Him each and every day; sing His praises" (Tobit 12:18). Hail to You, O Raphael, who caused Tobais and Sarah to rejoice, and who rejoices our hearts by reminding us to bless and praise God at all times.

Hail to you, O Suriel the Archangel, who appeared to Ezra and spoke with him, and taught him the limitations of human understanding. You told him that in the same way that no man can weigh fire, or measure the wind, or call back a day that has past, no one can comprehend the reasons the judgements of God... We cannot comprehend why the sinners and those who are rich prosper without following the commandments of God... we cannot comprehend why those who oppose God trample over those who believe in His covenant... we cannot comprehend the way of the Most High.... It is thus good to remain obedient to the will of God, for there are great promises in the world to come to those who remain obedient to God's covenant. Hail to you, O Archangel Suriel, who reminded Ezra of the truth of the promises in the coming age by saying: "The entrances of this world were made narrow and sorrowful and toilsome; they are few and evil, full of dangers and involved in great hardships. But the entrances of the greater world are broad and safe, and yield the fruit of immortality. Therefore unless the living pass through the difficult and futile experiences, they can never receive those things that have been reserved for them. Now therefore why are you disturbed, seeing that you are to perish? Why are you moved, seeing that you are mortal? Why have you not considered in your mind what is to come, rather than what is now present?" (2 Esdras 7:12-16).

Hail to the Cherubim,
Hail to the Seraphim,
Hail to all the hosts,
Of the heavens.

Hail to you, heavenly Cherubim, who are full of the knowledge of God and upon whom the Glory of God is seated and rests. Hail to you for your complete and faithful obedience to the Creator, for unlike the fallen cherub, you did not think of being more glorified than God, and did not wish to exalt yourself by boasting your heavenly power. Hail to you, you living creatures full of eyes, who teach us that the righeous man who knows and is obedient to God's will is the true seat and throne of Wisdom (Prov. 12:23, Septuagint), just as with your knowledge and obedience you are the Seat of the Glory of God.

Hail to you, O Seraphim with the six wings, who stand in two choirs and praise God continously saying antiphonically: "Holy, Holy, Holy, Lord of Hosts! Heaven and earth are full of Your Holy Glory!" Hail to you, who stand in obedience to God's design and glorify Him without ceasing. Hail to you, O Seraphim, who chant the hymns pertaining to our salvation, and from whom we learn to praise and glorify God in obedience to His will.

Hail to the four incorporeal creatures,
Who carry the wheelwork of God,
A face of a lion, and a face of an ox,
A face of a man, and a face of an eagle.

Hail to the four cherubim, the living, incorporeal creatures serving God at all times, who appeared in a vision to Ezekiel the Prophet and to St. John the Evangelist.

When you appeared to Ezekiel, you looked alike and were as wheels within wheels, each of you with four faces, with four wings, and were full of eyes. You moved together and stopped together in obedience to God's will, and for that reason the glory of the God of Isreal was above you (Ez. 10:19).

When you appeared to St. John, you were surrounding the throne of God, each of you with one face, six wings, and full of eyes all around and inside, and you continously praise God without ceasing and with all the other heavenly beings saying: "Holy, holy, holy, the Lord God Almighty, who was and is and is to come!" (Rev. 4:8). Your praise declares your humility and obedience to Him Who Is eternal, for through it you powerful and majestic beings - for the lion is the king of the beasts, the eagle the king of the birds, the ox the king of the cattle, and the man is the king of creation - admit that you are His creatures and lower than Him, and thus are obedient to Him.

May we too be harmonious in our praise of God as you are, and move, stop, and live in peace with one another, and in obedience to God's will.

Great is the honor,
Of the incorporeal saints,
The priests of truth,
The twenty-four priests.

Indeed the honor given to you, O twenty-four incorporeal priests in heaven, is great! For you are seated in thrones around the throne of God, dressed in pure, white robes, and have golden crowns on your heads (Rev. 4:4). Great is your honour, but greater still is your humility and obedience to the eternal God who created you and gave you that honour, because of your obedience! In the heavenly praise of the heavenly beings, all of you get off your thrones and fall before the One who is seated on the throne and worship Him... you even take off your crown in respect of Him who lives forever and ever and cast it before the throne, praising and saying: "You are worthy, our Lord and God, to receive glory and honor and power, for you created all things, and by your will they existed and were created" (Rev. 4:11).

Great is this admittance of glory and honor and power to God, for in it all you twenty-four priests, who are enthroned with God, claim that you exist only in obedience to His Divine Will. May we too learn to glorify and praise our Lord and God, for by His will we exist and are created, we live and are honored.

Hail to you who spent thirty years in the wilderness, preparing yourself in obedience to God's will as said by the prophets, to cry out in the wilderness and proclaim the need for repentance in prepration for Christ, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sins of the world.

Intercede for us, O forerunner and baptist, before Him whom you baptized in obedience to His Word, and may we learn to obey the Lord in the same way as you did - for just as it was not fitting for you to baptize the Lord, yet you did baptize Him as He told you, we too are not fit to serve the Lord, yet we have been blessed by a command to serve God and all our neighbors in love.

Hail to you, who went around the whole earth, preaching and proclaiming the Good News. Hail to you, who remained faithful to the end, obedient to Christ's command to preach to the nations. Hail to you, who were respectful of rulers and kings of the world, yet were obedient only to the true King, our Lord Jesus Christ, and worshipped Him alone. Hail to you all, who carried Christ in themselves and became a living example for all people to follow.

Hail to you, O our father Peter, whose faith in the Son of God was the stone upon which the Church was built. Hail to you, who was obedient to our Lord's love and command, and lead the Church of the faithful through the grace of the Holy Spirit. Hail to you, O Saint Peter the Apostle, who remained obedient to our Lord to the end of your life, and endured to be crucified up-side-down, considering your lowliness before the One who was crucified for our sins.

Hail to you, also, our teacher St. Paul the Apostle, who walked and sailed to the nations of the world, and preached our salvation. Hail to you, who wrote to admonish and teach love and peace among the Christian communities of the world. Hail to you, who wrote to teach all the people the true doctrines and dogmas of the Church, our salvation, and the resurrection. Hail to you, who established Churches and stayed in touch with them, even while you were imprisoned. Hail to you, O St. Paul the Apostle, whose holy teachings have reached the end of the world. Hail to you, St. Paul, who turned the obedience of the Law to a living, spiritual life with Christ our Lord.

Hail to you, O Evangelist and Apostle St. Mark, who witnessed the life of Christ and obeyed the Holy Spirit in writing an account of our Lord's life. Hail to you, O Apostle of the Egyptians, whose teachings have brought light to our land, and taught us to obey and worship the Father and the Son, and the Holy Spirit. Hail to you, O St. John, the beloved of our Lord, the Theologian who taught us the Word of God is true God from God, true light from true light, and that everything in the world was made through Him. In obedience to the Word of God, all that is made was made, and nothing in the world was not made through Him. In obedience to the Father, the Word of God visited us and enlightened us. In loving obedience to Him, you, O St. John the Evangelist, told us that we will have the right to become children of God, for we are not born of blood or the will of the flesh, or even the will of man, but of the will of God.

Pray for us, O Theologian and Evangelist, the pure and celibate, the beloved of Christ, so that we may remain in obedience to the Word of God, and walk in His light always.

Hail to you, O first Christian martyr, St. Stephen the Archdeacon, who was blessed with a vision of Christ when you were stoned to death by the Jews. Hail to you, who remained obedient to the new Law of Christ, the Law of love. Hail to you, who preached obedience to God's wisdom and way, instead of the way of the stiff-necked Jews, the way of uncircumcision in heart and ears, the way of opposing the Holy Spirit. Hail to you, who through obedience was filled with the Holy Spirit, and saw the glory of God.

Pray for us, O Archdeacon and St. Stephen, that we may learn from you obedience to the end, even through martyrdom. Pray for us, that we, too, may be filled with the Spirit of God, and see the glory of God and Christ standing, ready to receive us because of our obedience.

You struggled for seven years, O Prince George, rather than be obedient to the pagan Emperor, for the sake of your love for Christ. Theodore the General.

Hail to you, O Theodore the General, the son of John of Shoteb, who fought in many battles with the Romans, and became a Roman hero. You fought courageously with the aid of the Archangel Michael, and brought down the enemies in obedience to Emperor, as commanded by the Apostles. In obedience to a divine call, you risked your life and saved the widow’s children from being consumed by the dragon. Then, when the Emperor Diocletian commanded you to worship the idols and his image, you chose to be obedient to God alone rather than sin against Him by worshipping the false and dumb idols. Hail to you, O General, who with wisdom was obedient to God’s commandments. Hail to you, O courageous hero, who stood up for the Truth, who is Jesus Christ, and chose to give his life to die the victorious death and live with the King of Peace. Pray for us, O Saint Theodore the General, before the Lord whom you were obedient to.

Who can speak of the wonders of the holy saint, Abba Mena? You are truly courageous, O young soldier, who joined the army to protect your people and your land. You are truly holy, O ascetic youth, who lived in wilderness for five years. You are truly courageous, O great martyr, who without fear declared your faith in Christ and was beheaded by the unbelievers. You are truly wonderous, O great saint, for the all the miraculous deeds and blessings you have given us throughout the ages. Continue to remember us and pray for us, O holy Abba Mena, before the King of Peace, so that our lives may continue in peace, and the doors of the Church may remain open to all the faithful for the glory of God.

Hail to the two courageous brothers, the first an ascetic in the Syrian desert, the second a soldier of the Emperor in Antioch. Hail to the two brothers who lived in obedience, the first in the wilderness obedient directly to the holy life of celibacy, and the second obedient to the Holy Spirit’s command through the Apostles to honor the Emperor. Hail to both of you, Abba Kir and his brother John, who, when the time of persecution under Diocletian came, returned to your home, Alexandria, and stood up for the Christian faith before the pagan governor. Hail to you, O martyrs, who struggled with the sins of the world and did not deny your faith, and were beheaded with your mother, St. Athanasia, and your three virgin sisters, Sts. Theodora, Theopisti, and Theodosia. Remember us before the Lord whom you loved, honored, and obeyed, that He may grant us the forgiveness of our sins.

Hail to the two friends, the brothers who were united in spirit, the great warriors and athletes, the honored saints and struggle-mantled martyrs, Sergius and Bacchus. Hail to you both, for you enlightened us by showing us what true friendship with one another that is in Christ should be like. Hail to you both, who were obedient in your services in the military in Syria for the Emperor Maximianus, but hail to you again, who stood together steadfastly against the enemy, and later stood against those who forced you to worship the created, blind and mute idols. Hail, and hail again! We hail you and sing praises with you, as we see you both in prison, with great courage chanting hymns and praises together to the Lord! Courageous heroes are you both indeed, who remained obedient to the Lord’s commands to the very end, and loved one another in purity to the very end. Hail to you, O saint Sergius, who was martyred first, and hail to you, O saint Bacchus, who remained faithful to the Lord, despite the thought of not being able to praise Him again with your friend. Hail to you, O saint Sergius, who appeared to your friend and encouraged his faith, and hail to you, again, O saint Bacchus, who in obedience and love endured many tortures and was finally martyred. Remember us, O you two friends, while you stand together to praise God, and teach us to remain obedient and faithful with hope and with love.

Cosma, his brothers and their mother.

Hail to you, O martyrs and saints, the family that was martyred for the Lord. Hail to you, St. Cosmas and St. Damian, who spent their lives treating the sick freeliy with your knowledge of medicine, in obedience to God's command to love one's neighbours and curing the sick. Hail to you, saints Anthimus, Leontius, and Euprepius, the brothers who, in obedience to God's perfect command, went into the wilderness and lived the life of perfection. And hail to their mother, St. Theodata, the widow who served the Church of God, and who constantly encouraged and comforted her children when they were persecuted by Diocletian's orders.

Hail to you, O courageous heroes, from whom we learn the love of family, the love of neighbours, and the great sacrifice of blood for the love of Christ our Lord. Pray for us before the throne of the Pantocrator, who with great love delivers us from all evil and the power of the enemy.
