I just wanted to alert everyone to a new video that has been posted in the blogs, one that I encourage everyone to view: Hurricane Katrina's Effects on St. Mark's COC, New Orleans

In late August 2005, Hurricane Katrina inflicted widespread damage on the city of New Orleans. Among the devastation was St. Mark's COC, New Orleans. We thank the Lord that all of the congregation was safe after the hurricane. Many members of the congregation lost their homes and their jobs. In addition, they lost their newly-renovated church, which for most of us, would be like losing a second home.

I thought about this issue a lot as I viewed the video - how would it feel if I lost my church? How would it feel to go through Lent with no liturgy books or Pascha books? How would I teach Sunday school without the supplies, books and curricula that I depend on?

And then I realize how weak I am compared to the members of St. Mark's congregation, for they never complain. They are not even asking for our financial donations so much as our prayers.

Even so, the church needs to be rebuilt and its furnishings and supplies replaced. Many of the things needed by the church are things our churches have in abundance and can share. Please take 15 minutes to view the video and share it with others. While the video is a large file, it has been optimized and formatted into a smaller file for easier viewing.

You may view the video here: Hurricane Katrina's Effects on St. Mark's COC, New Orleans

Please keep this church and its congregation in your prayers.

In Christ,
carol

i saw the video ,
thanks for shareing carol .... it was very moving .
the part that struck me in the heart was in the beginning of them showing the damage , when the woman picks up a holy liturgy book and peels off parts of a page that reveals jesus christ our lord and savior .

the way the bible did not move made me proud to be a christian even more so .

i also liked how they showed h.h pope shenouda consecrateing the alter in the album and the video clips in the beginning was one of my favorite parts .

rabina mowgood .

my prayers and thoughts are with the church . may they get the comfort and funds and blessings they are seeking .

thank you for the video .

tony .

P.s - do u think they are seeking voluntary helpers to fly down to new orleans to offer assistance with labor or anything else ?

Hey Tony,

Glad you liked the video. I agree that it is very moving. I am not sure whether volunteers can go down in the near future (or when they will rebuild), but you might want to email them to see if they could accept volunteers to help in the rebuilding efforts. The email address is in the blog entry.

In the meantime, you could always organize a prayer meeting or a book drive or something to benefit them. It would be a good way to keep the kids involved!

God bless,
carol

Have you tried to right-click and "Save Target As" to save it to your computer? It is a large file (roughly 100 MB), so if your Internet connection is slow, it may be difficult to watch it as streaming video.
