No, not at all.
The reason we change they get their changed (most of the time) is so they can have a saint whom they can model their life after. It is just like when a person enters the monastery. When they put on the blue garment they change their name, likewise with the white and finally with the black. There are few who never change their names.
The point is for them to model their lives after a specific saint.
....I remember when Anba Serapion ordained me a deacon he didn't change my name. But that is beacause my name is George and I was ordained in St. George. He just kept it the same.

btw, most of the time the name change correspondes to the synaxarium.
