Hello everyone,
I was just wondering if anyone has received their Bible yet? If so, can you please supply me with a brief overview of your opinion of it. I have bought roughly 15-20 different bibles in the last year or so and I don't want another poor translation to sit on my bookshelf.

We ordered ours and I'm interested in seeing how it turned out, but unfortunately we won't receive ours until the end of February

We have a strong relationship with our Eastern Orthodox brethren in college and thus we are able to get them at the end of February.
Our Eastern Orthodox brethren (OCF - orthodox christian fellowship) will have Fr. Peter Gillquist come in 2 weeks to give a youth meeting as well as to discuss the New Orthodox Study Bible coming out.
If any of you have questions for Fr. Peter Gilquist feel free to PM me or post them here and I will be glad to ask him when he comes to give his youth meeting.

The New Orthodox Study Bible should be available at www.orthodoxbookstore.org as soon as it gets released. Its a great way to support a Coptic reseller as opposed to getting it anywhere else. God willing, we will be able to run a promotion to try to sell it a little cheaper than the retail price.

I received my copy of the Bible this past weekend. I browsed through it quickly and liked it very much. Re: some of the issues that are raised here earlier, you'll be pleased to know that I saw quotes from St. Cyril of Alexandria, and St. Athanathius. As to the origin of this translation, they based the old testament on the Septuagint version, and not on Masoretic version. The new testament translation is based on the new King James version. I found the annotation to be very helpful and insightful.
Anyways, my two cents.
By the way, I am biased for it since our archdiocese produces it.

I ordered min of Amazon, and they are projecting that it comes to my door around end of April. I guess it's the leather-bound version that came out first.

mathitis. i saw on amazon that it was only around 35 dollars. am i wrong. if so how much did you order yours for. i was under the assumption that it cost much more than that. I am happy now. And for the people that got it already. how is it in general.

I as well have just recieved mine and i find it to be very good, and i'm pleased with what i see. The ordering of the old testament is a bit odd by ending it with Daniel but overall a great Bible much better than the NKJV alone. I highly suggest anyone who hasn't ordered it to do so. I didn't look at any of the commentaries at the bottom of the pages yet so i haven't noticed what you guys were discussing but i highly recomend that it is ordered

Hey Peter, I miss you, man. Yeah, it was around that price in American dollars a little less now as our dollar is stronger these days. This is the link I used to pre-order it. Not expensive. I thought it would've easily sold for 70$ or more.

It costs me $49 including shipping and handling. on amazon, it goes for $45.

So I got my new Orthodox Study Bible, and I was extremely excited about it, but the more I've used it the more confused I got. As someone already mentioned, they have changed around the order a bit of the Old Testament. Also, they changed some names for example 1 Samuel, is now 1 Kingdoms, and 1 Kings, is now 3 Kingdoms.
Also, when we were reading in Jeremiah in the NKJV,- I could not find the following verse or chapter in the new Orthodox Study Bible.
Jeremiah 29:11 (New King James Version)
11 For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the LORD, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope
Am I missing something? Is it somewhere else? Why would the book of Jeremiah not match in the NKJV and the Orthodox Study Bible (OSB)? I'm getting worried... I feel like this is going to cause a lot of confusion, especially when we look up references when reading the books of the fathers that are not the same references in the OSB...
Any thoughts?

I think that Jeremiah 29:11 in NKJV corresponds with Jeremiah 36:11 in the LXX. I don't know why, though.
In the OSB, Jeremiah 36:11 reads:
"For I shall consider a plan of peace for you, to give you good things and not calamities"
Does anybody know why this is so?

I meant why (and how) are the LXX and the NKJV different regarding Jeremiah and the chapters/verses?

I recently received my Bible and with great excitement I have been using it for about two weeks. Here are my impressions, both bad and good:
Let’s start with the BAD:
•Christ’s words are NOT in red; this is my biggest gripe about this Bible.
•There are no chapter headings for the book of Isaiah.
•There is not enough commentary in the Old Testament; the quantity is small.
•There are verses missing in this version of the Old Testament; my problem is not with the missing verses. It’s with the fact they don’t mention they are missing. This happened with the story of David and Goliath. However, they do mention the re-ordering of Jeremiah and Malachi on page xi.
•The pages are very thin; you can see through them.
The GOOD:
•A complete Old Testament with the mistakenly called “Apocrypha” put in the correct order of the Septuagint, not put as an appendix.
•The quality of the commentary is great; they allude to many of the church fathers.
•The one page articles add much to the commentary; wonderfully written.
•The previous two points will most definitely open up the Old Testament to people who formerly thought it closed.
•The icons add to the aesthetics of the Book.
•The paragraph in which the non-Chalcedonians are called heretics in the introduction of the previous OSB (New Testament only) has been taken out in this edition.
•The numbering and translation of the Psalms follow that of the Agpeya; that is a huge benefit of this Bible and one of my favorite things about it.
The DIFFERENT:
•The translation is noticeably different from the NKJV; I don’t see this as something bad or good. It is what it is: a translation of the GREEK Old Testament, the scriptures our Fathers the Apostles used.
Some suggestions:
•Buy the Bibles in bulk; you save $20 per Bible (leather or hardcover) if you do that. Therefore, get your church to order a bunch.
•The bonded leather Bible is $20 more expensive than the hardcover (30 vs. 50) if done in a bulk order. The leather comes with a leather cover, a fabric tab, and gold leaf paper.
•I think this is a good investment; hopefully this Bible will be embraced by our communities.

It's both Testaments. Supposedly, they added commentary to the previous version. However, I've been concentrating on the Old Testament so I can't say that from experience.
I checked out amazon.com; and their prices are a little better than the bulk, but you'll probably have to wait longer. Either way, I think this is a great project. Hopefully, it catches fire.
