Hello,
Does anyone know how exactly Elizabeth and the Virgin Mary are related? Note that Elizabth is from 'the daughters of Aaron' (Luke 1) and Saint Mary is of the tribe of Judah

I've heard/read of two different versions of how they were related.

First according to Hippolytus, Sts Mary and Elizabeth were first cousins their mothers being sisters and Elizabeth's mother had married someone from the tribe of Levi.

The other theory, don't remember the source, was that St. Anna, mother of St. Mary, was from the tribe of Levi and first cousins with St. Elizabeth, making St. Mary and St. Elizabeth first cousins once removed.
