the book out of chicago is a complete service book with vespers and matins prayers (doxologies included) as well as all the hymns and responses for the various fasts and feasts of the year. It also includes many of the melodies said in the different seasons like "Blessed are those who have mercy" during the Lent season and the "The Burning Bush" during Kiahk. It is a very complete book which is nice to have especially since everything is translated in English and all the rites are in English too. You can order from the church website stmarysofchicago.com (I think) and also from Orthodoxbookstore.org.
Keep me in your prayers during this time of Lent

Aya Aghbar?
What's happening? I saw the book on the homepage of coptic heritage and got excited, I thought it was Anba Youssef's book...
But it wasn't.... ![]()

Yeah I wish that was our book too, but not quite...
HGBY is still in his final review of the book, and again, once he's done, it goes to our publisher in Egypt.
Please continue to remember this project in our prayers and ask that the Lord strengthen His Grace during his review.

From michaelg:Does the new SUS deacons book follow albert Mikhail's book exactly? B/c I know they wanted to translate the book into english. I would like to unity with the books.
No... I posted a while back as to what the book contains... Here's an excerpt:
Regarding what's in it, it's basically 4 books combined into one (i.e., liturgy book, complete book of rites, complete tamgeed book, complete khidmat al-shamaas)-- all well-translated and thoughtfully organized. Three languages throughout (Coptic, non broken English, and Arabic). Primary language of the book (i.e., language of the Rites) is English, but that said, every single hymn is presented in all three languages (even Ya kool al sefoof for the Resurrection).
- Complete hymns for the offering of morning and evening incense, all three divine liturgies
- Complete hymns for all seasons, fasts/feasts, etc
- Extensive Rites for Agpeya, Tasbeha, offering of morning/evening incense, liturgies, all fasts/feast of the year, Holy week, Tamgeed, all special occasions (e.g., ordinations, funerals, weddings, baptisms, etc)
- A section for preparatory prayers for deacons while going to church and their instructions
- The hymns for all of the fasts/feasts are organized by Coptic month, rather than arranged like Albeir's book... This way the taqs for the coptic month can be appreciated and the flow of the book is more logical and organized.
We used Albeir's book significantly for hymns that were "lost" and where documentation was scarce... He did an outstanding job bringing these hymns back to the "public eye" and we felt it was prudent to include as many as possible...
That said, these are two separate efforts, and two compeltely independent projects, but both with the same goal in mindl-- fostering education and dissemination of Coptic hymns and rites... Our book was specifically focused towards the English speakers around the world, but will work for Arabic speakers as well, while Albeir's was vice versa.
(back to work)

HGBY will be done with the book's final review by the Apostles' Fast (i.e., a day or so)... Then, it goes off for print, God willing.
As soon as this happens and we have a better estimate as to how long it will take and what the printing time will be and shipment, etc, I will let the community know right away.
Pray for this project.
