No, Lazarus Saturday is its own day. The ending of the fast is the concluding Friday. And instead of breaking the fast for a day, we just fast an extra day for Lazarus Saturday. Then, it is Palm Sunday.

Hey HCOC members i've got a question for you, Why did you guys chose to sing Oniatk the way you did and not by just taking the whole tune of Piepnevma and rekebha on it? I'm talking about Fr. Isiah's recording here:http://tasbeha.org/mp3/Hymns/Other_Occasions/Holy_Week/Fr_Isaiah_Al_Muharraqi.html
Or why didn't you guys record both ways like you did with Tishorii and Agios?

If you read the old Passion Week books, you will find that the first 2 verses of the hymn are not like Pie Epnevma, it says: "then they say the hymn of Deemas". after the verse ending "Paradesos", it reads: "then they say the Paralex in the same tune as the Paralex of the Pantecost". So, the way we recorded it goes perfectly fine with the description of the hymn in the old books. The first 2 verses has a tune, not just like the beginning of Pie Epnevma.
Another reason is that this hymn was handed down by an old cantor from Tahta call (Wadee3 el Kommos Matta) who passed away in 2001. This cantor learnt it from another cantor from Deshna. So it is handed down by cantors. On the other hand, the other way you mentioned was not handed down by any cantor, just made up, or "metrakkeba" on the tune of Pie Epnevma, because the person recorded it didn't know the tune for the first part, which is the actual hymn.
Add to this that the spiritaul meaning of the music of the hymn goes very well with Good Friday. The first part is mournful, and then the Paralex is Joyous... same as Pek Ethronos, and we all know the meaning of the mixing between the 2 tunes.
As for Agios and Tie Shoory, these were handed down by cantors, so no issues with them. They are a different story.
I hope this answers your question... I also hope that all deacons learn this beautiful hymn and resurrect it again in their churches.

I was just wondering, is the music for Tou Dipnou originally Greek; like is it Greek music? I don't know why, it just doesn't sound "COPTIC" to me. I the words are obviously all Greek, but there is a trend to put Coptic music to Greek hymns and I was just wondering if that happened here.

Yes, it was taken from the Greek Church - everything aboout it and relating to it is Greek.

The best tracks are avechinon, omonogenees, ethvety, golgotha, and praxionton!! I could have sworn that i heard someone's cell phone go off during praxionton, but it was soooo beautiful!! Very interesting was the 12 kerie leysons...i would like to see the source for this hymn. The arabic gospel was also beautiful, was that fr. barsoum??

Wow lots of questions, lets answer them!
Just more on Tou dipnou, it is a Greek hymn. It was bought by Mouallim Tekla in the 19th century but he didn't get to spread it like Ton Sina, To leethos and Eparthenos got spread. We know about this hymn because it is written in the Khidmet el Shammas by Nahdet el Kanayes.
The reason why these greek hymns came into the coptic church are from the time of Pope Kyrillos the 4th who wanted to unite both Greek and Coptic Church's, so he took some hymns and rites from them and placed them into the Coptic church.
Abouna Barsoum recorded the 6th and 9th hour litanies... and yes the most shocking thing to find out (even us in the HCOC) is to find out there is a grand melismatic for a lot of hymns lol. Those who have the Midnight Praise CD know what im talking about.
And the source for the Kiryelison is that of Muallim Wahba, as it says in the introduction of the source.

Hey AMoussa01,
The person who is singing the Arabic Gospel is a servant/deacon at our church - Virgin Mary & St. Athanasuis. He's actually a lead singer in the Arabic choir - "Lady of Light Choir" http://www.ladyoflightchoir.com/. And Albier knew him and asked him to record it....Yeah he's got a beautiful voice. Okay, so I finally bought this production on Sunday, and I really like it. However, after skimming through the back covers of the CD, I can't seem to find Evlogimenos. What's up with that? Is it not included because Palm Sunday is classified as a feast? Or am I just blind and it is on one of the CDs somewhere?

let me answer this.
Palm Sunday is a feast by itself. th general funeral is not part of it but rather a sraprate service that is in fact the beginning of holy week.

Yep, the Palm Sunday Production is one on its own since there are so many hymns alone for that feast. So you have to wait for that one gonna be nice... theres even a long eflogimenos
