Dear hany58,
I would like to oppose what you said (not disagreeing completely I mean) about the different ways we sing hymns. I do agree that if we all stood at the same time in different places singing one particular hymns, we will have different rhythms, and we will finish that hymn each one on their own time. This is not the issue however. The big issue is precision and honesty in rendition. To me, it doesn't seem right when Ibrahim Ayad sings some of these hymns different to other cantors (not talking about the rhythm, or the speed). I mean if we take hymnology as a study, there are certain musical segments composed of melismata (to help our larynx adapt to the music) that are repeated in different hymns. Although inconsistent sometimes, but I find HICS the most precise. Ibrahim doesn't usually follow this. In fact, he sometimes distorts these segments for the sake of the hymn (whether it sounds a bit joyful, or a bit low in tune), and this conflicts with the precision in rendition. What do you all think about this?
God bless you all and pray for us a lot
