I am just curious where on earth did this tune come from? I know that there are only a couple of hymns that have survived from this liturgy but i dont think this was one of them. Where is the source of this?

where did you hear this hymn, its not on this site, if you are talking about the recording that's on tasbeha (English that is) then that is known as the Alexandrian tune. I believe it is also in the liturgy by fr Mattias nasr but I could be wrong about that do u have a specific recording in mind we can here???

If you click on this link you will hear it; However, this for some reason, is the gregorian liturgy. Also, it should be "ya alah, ol eb dabitul kul." instead of "mokhalesna."

ahh yes... i have listened to this file many times Smile I dont think anyone's voice can match that of muallem tewfik. I am just wondering if he recorded this as being part of the Cyrillian liturgy because, if im not mistaken, this was in the Gregorian liturgy section. Thanks again for the file Ramez

The je nai nan for St. Gregory is the same for St. Cyril. Fr. Mettias took M. Tewfik's tune and put them the words for St. Cyril.

My impression, and that is only my extrapolation, is that its simply an alternate tune that is not quite as popular as the other one we usually hear in churches.

The recording by Fr. Mattias Nasr of the Cyrillian liturgy contains quite a few hymns that are not strictly Cyrillian but were probably included for a change.

For example, they choose to record the long Pinishty, not the regular one. There is also nothing specifically Cyrillian about the litany of oblations, its just the tune for it whenever its said.

So in the same way, i think this tune is just a different tune, valid for gregorian and cyrillian liturgies alike. Maybe Fr. mattias chose that tune just to popularize it and because the other tune was already recorded in HICS Gregorian.

This is interesting. Thanks David and Ramez for your insights. I wonder if there are any other hymns that are "labeled" such as this hymn to be apart of any one particular liturgy.
