Serving Others
by Hegomen Pishoy Kamel
A few contemplations on service for a new start with God and as an aid in our spiritual lives.
- The image of the Lord will be printed on the heart and will shine by His light when the heart offers a service to others for the sake of the Lord Jesus.
- The risen church is an evangelizing power. God's Divine Love, which springs from the Holy Cross, is the energy that pushes the servant to serve the souls.
- Whoever is lifted with Christ on the Cross certainly has tasted the power of death to the world, the power of resurrection, and the power of ascension into Heaven. The servant descends to the world by this power to lift up his children once again to what is above.
- The work of a servant in the ministry is planting seeds in those he serves. The seeds that are planted are the messages of God's love and sacrifice, as seen through the Cross.
- The servant must raise the level of faith in those whom he serves to the degree that they trust in the fact that Christ has overcome the world, and to the degree that the level of their faith lifts them above all the problems of the world and its tribulations. The servant shows them that God is with us at all times and until the end of all ages.
- Meekness is an accompanying characteristic to the Church of Christ, whose Head (the Lord Jesus) was born in a manger that housed cattle. If the trait of meekness departs from the priest or servant, the devil will spoil that servant's work.
- Being introverted and isolated is fleeing the responsibility of the ministry.
- The relationship of the shepherds to the Cross is a life of love and prayers; they pursue it diligently so that the Church will be converted into a citadel of prayers. Love is the bond that binds the shepherd to his flock.
- The shepherd or the servant is a martyr of love. He pursues that love diligently by all the power he can receive from the love of Christ on the Cross. He loves and never hates because charity (i.e., God) never fails.
- The goal that motivates the priest or the servant to the ministry is his love for the Crucified One. The servant's bond with He who died makes the servant look at every man coming to him as a special person that God recommended, and for whom the Lord was crucified.
- The servant or priest who becomes easily and quickly angered spoils the ministry.
- The priest or servant who loves to be judgmental spoils the ministry.
- The priest or servant who is proud of himself and his ministry gives joy to the heart of the devil. The man that honestly and circumspectly lives the life of Christ carries the image and aroma of the humble and crucified Christ everywhere he goes and spreads its message.
- If you have a gift and start to despise others, God will take that gift back from you. Humility prepares your heart to receive gifts. The humble are the only people who can keep their gifts.
